Funny Kind of Tolerance
As the Shotgun notes Henry Morgentaler has been given an honorary degree by the University of Western Ontario. Canada's leading abortionist took the opportunity to praise himself for his humanitarian work. He argued that Canada's high abortion rate is the cause of the dropping crime rate. According to his theory less "unwanted children" has led to less criminals. This theory though widely dissemenated is rather dubious. (Steve Sailer has extensive analysis of the flaws in the theory here.)
Obviously Morgentaler has good reason to seek justifications for his life's crusade to make abortion available without restrictions. Less clear is why the UWO would choose to honor him in the name of tolerance. It's true that you'll find lots of people willing to tolerate Dr. Morgentaler at any university. It's much less likely that you will find much tolerance for those who dissent from the brave new world of the doctor. Try setting up a display that simply shows what abortion is at the University of British Columbia where pro-abortion activists physically attacked pro-life students a few years ago before talking about tolerance.
