Differing opinions

Kate at Small Dead Animals compares the different ways one can see the case of Terri Schiavo. Is it about her right-to-live or her right-to-die? The answer may not surprise you. It did remind me of a rather penetrating remark Colby Cosh made considering the health of John Paul II and suggestions he'd be better off dead:
Do we lament John Paul II's illness because it makes him uncomfortable, or because it makes us uncomfortable?
The two cases aren't the same of course but they are both examples of the growing sense that if you're not able to participate in extreme sports the value of your life is really questionable.
